Spec-checked recovery tools
Start with what hurts.
Not with a product.
Every other recovery site answers your question from its own aisle. We route the problem to the tool class that fits it — and say plainly when a $6 ball beats a $400 device, which is more often than you would think.

Where does it hurt?
Twelve problems, each routed to the class of tool that actually fits — with a table showing where every option fails, contraindications quoted from the manufacturer’s own safety documentation, and an honest note when the answer is not a purchase at all.
What won, and where
The top pick from each roundup, with the live price. Every product photo and price comes from Amazon’s own data — nothing here is typed by hand.

We have not tested these. We say so.
Every big recovery site opens by telling you how many massage guns it tried. We haven’t tried any, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.
What we do instead: read the manufacturer’s own documentation, pull the published amplitude, stall force, speed and noise figures, and show the arithmetic that decides which tool reaches the thing you are trying to reach. Every number links to the page it came from. When a maker doesn’t publish a figure, we say that too — and name the page we checked, because the absence is information.
It turns out that matters. As of July 2026, neither of the two biggest brands in percussion therapy publishes an amplitude figure on the product page you buy from. A gun costing a fifth as much publishes amplitude, stall force, speed range and noise. You can check that yourself in about four minutes, which is rather the point.
Read these first
Four pages that carry the site’s argument. If you read nothing else here, read the spec comparison — it is the one that will change what you buy.

Best for Deep Tissue
The Best Massage Gun for Deep Tissue
Amplitude and stall force decide whether a gun reaches deep muscle. Ranked on the published figures — and on who refuses to publish them.
Top pick: Bob and Brad C2 Massage Gun

Best Spec Transparency
Bob and Brad vs Theragun
A $70 gun that publishes amplitude, stall force, PPM and dB against a $330 gun that publishes none of them. Side by side, sources linked.
Top pick: Bob and Brad C2 Massage Gun

Best Cross-Category Pick
Massage Gun vs Foam Roller
The most-searched comparison in recovery, answered by use case. A roller wins more often than the price difference suggests.
Top pick: TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller (13 in)
How this site is funded
Grip & Gait is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you buy through a link here we earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. We currently cover 44products and every price on the site is pulled live from Amazon and stamped with the date it was checked — if that data goes stale, the numbers disappear on their own and the buttons fall back to “Check price” rather than showing you something out of date.
Commission never changes a ranking. It is why several pages on this site recommend the cheapest thing in the category, and why one recommends a free stretch over anything we sell.
